Logging BEFORE ingest!?

I typically ingest full clips and do my keywording/labeling after transfer, but something was recently brought to my attention...

in FCP(previous) the Log/Capture window allowed foractual LoGGING of clips/portions of clips/ etc. to where if you only need three selections of an entire file and wanted to individually label them and create the ingested media files with those names, it was completely possible and simple..
is ther any way to do that in FCPx?

On camera clips from card or drive based cameras, not on tape based cameras.

Not sure about other companies, but Canon has a plug in for X that I believe will allow you to preview and select what parts of video clips you want to transfer. This plug in is for th XF series, maybe other companies have something similar.

If it's tape based, I am of no help here.

@ Implicated: is the issue that you only want to ingest parts of files or that you want to rename/add custom metadata at the time of ingest? Assuming we're talking about file imports (not tape) you can set non-contiguous ranges to import as separate clips. You can rename them afterwards.
