Transition Duration Issues With Lower Third

Greetings!

I've looked all over for a solution to this issue, but have come up empty...

I have a 10 second still dropped into my timeline above my primary clips. My default transition duration is set to 20 frames in preferences. When I apply a transition to the still, it defaults to 6 frames. I've even tried it with video clips that have handles, but it doesn't apply the default 20 frame duration. 6 frames seems to be the magic number, regardless.

What am I missing here?

Thanks!

What number do you have set in transition preferences? It is not based on seconds and frames, but on seconds and tenths of seconds. 0.50 is half a second, regardless of the frame rate of the project.

Tom:

Thank you for your response! Transitioning from FCP7...

I always thought of duration in terms of frames with FCP7. So, if I wanted a half-second fade, I would set the duration at 15 frames. In FCPX, I have my default duration set at .20, thinking it would give me 20 frames.

Based on what you're saying, I'm guessing this is probably my issue?

That's right. The percentage you set will fix the speed of the transition (not the number of frames) regardless of the frame rate of the project, whether it's 23.98 or 59.94.
