FCPX mac pro upgrade was created by Jim

With a new Mac Pro which will give me the best performance on render and effects?
upgrade ram to 16GB or upgrade GPU to D500 3GB?

If it's either or, I'd invest in the GPU as you can easily upgrade the memory later. FCP X can use as much GPU muscle you can give it.

Get the best GPU your budget allows. You can upgrade RAM later on

You will need both, but definitely the D500 first if you really have to make a choice.

Agreed - but the 16 gig upgrade is $100. On a $4k machine I'd not be quibbling about that. If your margins are so tight that the extra hundred will break you, I think you're looking at the wrong machine.
