Date recorded onto footage.....

As I am now getting to grips with FCP and learning lots about editing its time to look at the footage I have been collecting over the years. Some of my earlier footage was recorded onto tape with the date visible on the screen. (I have since learnt how to take the date off the screen while filming) but for my earlier stuff this isn't an option...or is it? Is there a way with FCP Pro X, version 10.1, that I can take the date off the screen in the edit???

There isn't a way to remove it, but there are many techniques to smudge it out so it doesn't draw too much attention to it.
