Hi all,
My first post. I've got past experience with video but I just got back on the wagon after about 8 years. Wow a lot has changed. All these different codecs.
So here is my question/s and maybe its about workflow too. I have a video that I want to show on a webpage. I'd like it to be around 640 x 360 perhaps smaller. I see there is no feature for that in Final Cut Pro X.
So can I
A. Squeeze it down to that size while still keep it crisp?
B. Start the project in a smaller size somehow?
C. If I can start it out smaller, do I want 1:1 ratio for graphics(i,e, smaller images imported in)
These reason for some of this is I have been rendering out of final cut big 1920x1080 and squeezing it down in adobe encoder and some of the graphics do not look crisp. I'm rendering out as
h.264
NTSC
Square Pixels
Level 3.1
VBR, 1Pass
Target Bitrate 2
Maximum Bitrate 2.44
Long ramble done. Sorry. I just want to get a feel for how it should be done.
Hope that wasn't too much or confusing.
best,
Lance

Yep I found it. Create a clip in motion and import into FCPX and open in its own timeline.

Hm, your solution is odd considering the question you asked. In general with FCPX you should use Compressor, but of course you can use other encoders to get to your 640x360 size. Going to motion is really roundabout way to do this.
Almost always it would be option A, since you should be able to retain quality when you reduce size. At 640x360 it would still look decent at 2000-2500 kbits/sec with h.264. Try higher if you're not satisfied.
If you pair Compressor with FCPX, you can output directly from FCPX using any preset you made in Compressor, so it's definitely possible to go to 640x360 from FCPX.

If you use a video sharing preset, one of the resolution choices is 640X360.
If you choose Low Broadband http streaming, you will get a 640X360 mp4.
In addition to Compressor, you could do this and more by exporting a Master File and bringing that into MPEG Streamclip.
