Finder Tagging of FCPX Library Media Not Working? was created by AdamHelwig
I have a basic question for anyone that can help me out. Is it possible to tag media in the Finder while the media is housed within a FCPX Library? I know I can show the Library contents and navigate to the Original Media folders of each event. However, when I try to add a Finder Tag to specific clips for easy access in the Finder, they do not show up under the tag I've assigned to them. Is this because it is not possible to do while the media is within the FCPX Library structure? Am I missing something? Any clarification would be greatly appreciated! Thanks!

Hi Adam,
No, colored Finder tags will not be transferred when you import files into FCPX, nor will tags applied to files inside an Original Media folder show in the Finder. Apparently Apple does not want to encourage people diving into the Library structure to mess with its contents, so I guess they feel no need to copy over any Finder tags
When you keep your original media external (i.e. you don't copy the media over into the Event) you will be able to keep the tags on the original media files.
Just FYI: one way to get file tags transferred over to the Original Media folder inside an Event is to Finder-copy the files straight into the Original Media folder instead of importing them. But that's a method I absolutely discourage. Messing around inside FCPX Libraries is never a good idea, unless you really, really see no other option
