OK. So in Final Cut 7 when I would import converted (pro res) video and audio from D800, the audio was slightly out of sync in the timeline. However, when I exported a Self Contained QT movie from 7, the audio was in fact in sync.
It just was not in sync in the timeline in FCP. Apparently this was a known issue, but I am concerned if this is an issue with X. The issue was thought to have crossed versions. Anyone having sync issues with audio from DSLR and X that was having this issue in 7?

I have noticed in FCPX pre 10.1 that audio and video are perfectly synced in the timeline, however when exporting a master file that opens in QuickTime (av foundation) there is a few frame difference on playback. When the same exported master is opened with QuickTime 7 the sync is perfect. I noticed this on two music videos that had tight lip sync and transitions timed to a beat and it was precise in the timeline and with QT 7, but not with the new QuickTime. I haven't been able to get to the bottom of this yet.

When I was working in FCP 7 I used PavTube Converter to convert the h.264 files to Pro Res 422, then import into a 7 project.
However, from what I understand, you can import the video media straight into FCP X with out having to convert from a converter.
I'm not exactly certain how FCP X will handle having h.264 media import into a project. Does it make a copy of the media? I'll have to check that out.
