I am in need of creating a muiticam video at a remote location using one USB3 drive. Using the BM disk tool I can get reads / writes between 140 - 147 range. What is the formula to predict how many video streams I can use with the USB3 I have to use?

Thanks!

What cameras are you using?
Codec?
Frame size?
Frame rate?
Expected duration of multicam clip?

Hi Ben,

We will have to use four 60Ds with one setup and seven five 5D MK3s.
This is what they want us to use.

Do you know of a formula I can use to predict the bandwidth needed?

Thanks!

I'd use Proxy media to do that large of a Multicam with, to start off.
Now, using Optimized media will give you better performance, and make exports go fatster, but will eat up more drive space than the native H.264 files. I would assume that the Proxy media would work with a USB 3 drive.

I don't rely on numbers, as they're all theoretical and refer to maximum possible bandwidth, not real world usable bandwidth. I strongly suggest you do a test shoot of a 5 minute anything, and try it out with Proxies.
