10.1 Update Projects and Events (fcp1) gotcha

Updating to 10.1 has been mostly smooth for me but I ran into one problem that I thought was worth mentioning in case others encounter it.

In one old Event I had a referenced .mov file named ICSAkn. It showed up in the 10.0.9 browser as ICSAkn but in the Original Media folder, its alias was named ICSAkn (fcp1).mov. When I did the 10.1 update, this alias got renamed to ICSAkn.mov and, for reasons I don't understand, I wasn't able to relink the file from within 10.1.

After a lot of experimenting I was able to fix the issue by going back to 10.0.9 and relinking that file (even though it worked fine in 10.0.9) which gave me a new alias named simply ICSAkn.mov. I then did the update with 10.1 and all worked smoothly.

I don't have much expertise on this kind of media management. There may be easier fixes and for all I know the extra (fcp1) may not have been the issue. But if you have an event with weird "missing file" issues after updating, you might look back in your old Original Media folder for any (fcp1) files and relink them.

Thanks for sharing that information. Something to look for if problems arise I guess. The (fcp1) would indicate to me that somehow the same clip was imported twice to that event and FCP added the extension automatically as it identified the duplicate clip.
