CTRL U shows unused media in Browser

CTRL U shows unused media in Browser was created by rjvddoes
Alex4D mentioned on his blog that CTRL U shows only the unused media in the browser. Funny enough this functionality is only accessible via this shortcut, you cannot select this in the drop down menu where you select All Clips, Hide Rejected, No Ratings or Keywords, etc. When you press CTRL U however, you will see that "Unused" does show up above the browser window.
So apart from the orange bar indicating the used clips in the browser there is also a possibility to filter out all the used clips and only show the unused clips.

Hi Tom,
First I thought it didn't work either, but when I clicked somewhere in the browser window and pressed CTRL U after that, it worked.
I also tested it by making a new event with only one clip in it. Select a portion in the middle of the clip and throw it in the timeline. The orange bar appears in the middle of the clip in the browser.
Make the browser the active window by clicking in the browser. Press CTRL U and there are now two clips in the browser, these are the left-overs. The used part with the orange bar doesn't show. Select All clips and the browser shows one clip with an orange bar in the middle portion again.
Also, during editing to the timeline, you will notice that newly used ranges are still visible in the browser complete with orange bar, although "unused" is selected. As soon as you change to another keyword collection or event and then return to the previous event it will update.

I haven't got a clue. They might have implemented this on monday morning or just before friday's happy hour?
I guess it will function properly in the next release.

I have a US Keyboard and when I click in the Events window and then press CTRL U unused clips are all that show up in the window. The other things is if I click in the Project / Timeline and press SHIFT F the used clips show up again in the Events window!

Is this a project created in 10.1 or an updated project from a previous version?

The project was created in 10.1. These commands don't always respond. Most of the time I must click in either the Event window or Project / Timeline for them to hid or show clips. Sometimes I get no response after clicking the commands.

Tom, works on my US keyboard, with both updated and new Events. This was one of the new features that excited me most writing my review of 10.1 at macProVideo. I think the Show Unused command is super, because then you know everything you're looking at won't be a repeat to the active Timeline. Much easier than having to read from a list of "used" media, and then decipher what is unused. GREAT new feature. Shows that the FCP dev team really thinks hard about how to implement things better than tradition.
But interesting I can't find reference to this command in the help doc...

Do you have show used turned on or off when you use the shortcut or doesn't it matter?

Benb, If the Dev team are working hard on this, its surprising that this hasn't been made more visible? But so far on my 2013 iMac (1tb fusion, 680m, 24gb ram) and 10.1 the stability and general fluidity is brill..
This is a great find, can we find some more please

On my system:
1- Have to have the Browser pane active.
2- Doesn't matter if Show Used is on or off, nor what the filter menu is set to.

Odd little behavior. I had to make a new project in 10.1 before the function worked. After I made the 10.1 project I could go back to the updated project and it worked again.
