FCPX and Motion 5

I have a basic question. If I wanted to edit a video and then add Motion text/graphics in Motion 5 would I export the sole movie and then import to Motion and add whatever I want an then re-export from Motion? I am just not sure if that is the way to use both programs together? Thanks in advance!

Most likely you wouldn't export the whole movie unless it quite short. You might export a section to use as a reference plate in Motion. Make a project in Motion using the reference. Switch it off or delete it when you're done. Then export the Motion project in PR4x4 for transparency.

I save out a single frame, create an FCP Title template, use that frame PNG as reference. But if you have a lot of motion, etc, I'd do what Tom says.
