Yes I'm sorry guys that with the release of 10.1 that this is old news however I've kind of been away from editing for a lil bit and just now come into this problem. I had a wedding that has 18 separate projects drawing from the same event. I'm finally done with it.

I upgraded to Mavericks during this edit and during editing did not find any problems.

I now try to render each film out to 720p, .h264, 29.9 fps, it's been graded with the color board, and effects consist of Magic Bullet Looks, and for the most part FCPX cross dissolves is all.

I have a 2009 iMac 2.66 i5 Quad core, 16 gig ram, and have WD My Book Studio FW800 drives that the event/project files are housed in.

This morning around 9 am I began clicking on each one to export file to the above stated parameters. I just got home around 9 pm and only the very first project has even began to render and is only at 30%.

What gives? I've searched the forums for slow performance upon upgrade to Mav's but found most of the threads here have something else causing the problem...usb connection, non-optimized AVCHD. Oh yeah... I'm editing Canon 60 D, T2i, files straight up, and Vixia HF 20 AVCHD that was imported and optimized. NEVER had a problem before with export...very quick. Now with Mav's I gots problems.

By the way I rrreeeally don't want to upgrade to 10.1 until I get these projects rendered out first either. Once these projects are done I have nothing else started to worry about.

On double check I don't actually have the media optimized...however...that has never been a problem either. Hmmmm.... i see there are a bunch of other people that had complained about Mavericks but the solutions have been so varied and I have tried most of the ones I have seen including disabling App Nap.

It is possible that you have a clip or an effect on a particular clip that FCPX just doesn't like. This can cause the render output to hang indefinitely. Even though you say you are only using basic dissolves and some MBL color grades, you might want to check through your project.

You can also try to render a section using the range tool to see if you can narrow down a part of the project that might be troubling. I would also try to render out some of your other 18 projects and see if most of them work normally.

Are you on the latest 10.9.1 version of Mavericks?

Hi Don,

Have you tried exporting a Master File from a Project yet and then convert the Master File to H.264? Converting a long-GOP format to another long-GOP format can be extremely slow unless you have multiple fast processors to handle the decoding and the simultaneous CPU-heavy re-encoding.
