is anyone else seeing that when you resize the timeline (either stretch it out, razor cut a clip, change vertical height) it takes forever to re-draw the icons on the video portion of a clip?
the audio will redraw fine.

thanks

If you are referring to the thumbnails of the video clip, I have not noticed any unusual lag there. What computer specs do you have and where and what type of drive is your media stored on?

I was thinking the HDD as well but everything else in fcpx.1 seems fine except for the redraw.., right now everything for mavericks and fcpx.1 is temporary. so now i am booting off a 7200rpm sata, but it needs to boot on a usb 2 connection. I am on a macpro 5,1.
for this system i have a 4 HDD (1TB each) stripe raid setup internally that i usually boot from, but now it is still mt. lion. I may need to partition this stripe raid, one for mavericks and one for mt lion, so i still get the 4 HDD speeds. im going to need mt. lion for a bit of time to come.. so that may be the best way to still test out mavericks and fcpx.1

thanks

I'm on a 2008 Mac Pro with internal 4TB drives (no RAID), and I get great performance. What GPU is in your Mac Pro?

What do you mean by "...so now i am booting off a 7200rpm sata, but it needs to boot on a usb 2 connection."? Why would you want to use a mega-slow USB 2 drive for video editing? USB 3 would work fine, if you had USB 3 ports, but not USB 2.

Hey Kurt,

Any particular reason why you would need to keep ML? Mavericks is really good and 10.1 runs like heaven on it. I don't see any lags on any of our systems. And, as Ben says: USB2 is definitely a recipe for disaster.

the usb2 boot is only a test for now as i mentioned earlier.
the GPU is GTX 680

Hey Ronny, I see you travel around :) I am holding off putting Maverics on the internal raid until i go through all the software that was on the system when i got it.. what works, what dont (on Mavericks) and what i dont need...

Odd thing was however that in FCPX.1 everything worked fine except for the icon re-draw.. editing itself , for the testing i was doing, was fine on the usb2.. and the video clips were on the usb2 HDD as well.. but if no one else is seeing this, then it must be the HDD.. thats fine.. So i may need to partition the 4TB stripe into a mavericks and Mt. Lion setup.. too keep the speed.. ill need to see how (or if) backups with the 2 partions will work first. Once i am OK with all the apps on Mavericks i can dump Mt lion.

however there is one brick breaker game called Ricochet that dont work on Mavericks... the only game i ever play during breaks.. i am still working on that one :) Parallels needs an update as well..(i use this for winXP to program my Pronto Remote Control)

thanks Guys

It's the USB2 connection. FCPX has a lot of read/write to the drive and if you have a slow drive, the thumbnail redraws are the most noticeable way to tell. I bet if you opened that same project on your RAID it would draw much much faster.

I still see the redraw issue after installing fcpx and media on a raid at 400mbps.
The problem is related to importing MTS files directly.

Hi Kurt,

That could indeed explain it. Native MTS needs to be decoded on-the-fly and this affects your system performance. I only have done a few tests with MTS and have noticed no issues, but this was on a brand-new system. Can you do a test optimizing an MTS clip and see if the redraw is still slow with only the optimized clip on the timeline? Would be helpful.
