Generator causing FCPX to crash on startup was created by JasonP
I am using FCP 10.0.9 (don't have Mavericks at work yet so haven't upgraded to 10.1)
I downloaded Pro Vega 3 from Pixelfilmstudios.com and started adding lens flares to a compound clip. I closed FCP and when I came back, the event I added the effect to will cause fcp to crash . Using Event Manager X, I can hide the event that has the problem compound clip and open fcp fine.
Any ideas on how to get the event open again?

Hi,
I had a similar problem. What i did is go to the Finder, Videos, Motion Templates then Generator (if the problem is coming from a generator) and remove Pro Vega 3.
Restart FCP X and you'll just have a missing clip in your project but you'll be able to open it.
Hope this will help.

Thanks, I was able to get the event back open doing that.
Do you (or anyone) know if there's a way to relink the generator or will I have to redo all of them now? The only relinking I know of only seems to work with media files.
Also, I need to know how to avoid this in the future. I still want to use these effects. Do I need to not put so many in one compound clip? I currently have 12 in less than 2 minutes.

I am not exactly sure of the first part of your question but missing generators or effects, etc. usually need to be placed back into their respective locations in the Movies folder for your project to recognize and automatically relink them. If you have a defective or incompatible generator this will likely need to be removed permanently.
With respect to the number of effects or generators in a two minute compound clip, I don't believe having 12 is an issue. I have some compounds with more than that over a similar time span and they do not pose any issues for me. It may also depend on what type of generator you are using and how demanding they are on your system. As far as I know there aren't any technical limits.

It looks like there's a problem with Pro Vega 3 itself. I can't figure out what it is, I can't seem to load any compound clip with the generator loaded even removing all but 1 of them from my timeline.
