MTS native import vs ClipWrap

MTS native import vs ClipWrap was created by Dawar
I did a quick test to see the difference between importing MTS files and rewrapping these same files with an app such as Clipwrap before import.
- In Clipwrap, I'm able to attribute a Reel name (and that's pretty important for Resolve...) and clips are automatically renamed with it.
- Clips have their own and real Timecode.
- I'm able to convert audio to LPCM.
- Original Creation Date is maintained (still the same creation date than mts files)
So while being able to natively import MTS files can be useful in a hurry, there's a lot of advantages in this kind of rewrapping.

How does it do with combining mts files to create a long clip? I frequently shoot shots that are longer than 10 minutes, and clipwrap lets me combine them so I don't have a break where the shot goes to the second file. I wonder if this can be replicated in FCPX mts import?

I don't think it's possible, I don't see this option in fcpx import windows.
You would have to make a compound clip from all your original mts files.

Also, you can join them (prior to import) in MPEG Streamclip using the Batch List function.

i did a few minor tests with MTS clips and i found on my system that timeline redraw of the video icons is very slow and causes delays in editing. convert to optimized media didnt seem to help. I also added a retime to a section of the clip and the render time was verrrry long.. I use these type of clips alot, but i think clipwrap or anything else to convert them to 422 first is best.
