Can someone please explain the layout now???? was created by MsJustine
:S
I am so confused, no open project option, the new layout is so confusing, launch FCP X, and a random project is on the primary story line, how do I not have this happen?
How do I launch just 1 project from the virtual drive?
I do not understand the new icons, and what the mean, the clapper boards in screen 2, just to the right of the "broswer" screen, I have no idea of the names of things now...
Yes I am stupid... I have a very old brain, and it is very confused, I feel sick from frustration..Sad that I am so stupid...Pleas can any one help?? A skype call would be so so so so so useful, maybe even get me to stop with the 30th post to Apple in the last 10 minutes...
Sorry to be a bother...I am so confused as to how things work, I am new to this, and this new upgrade along with the X Event Manager...Somethings just take me a long time..

No need to beat yourself up MsJustine.
I suggest reading the article from the guys at Ripple Training to get a handle on the new changes that are Final Cut Pro 10.1: www.fcp.co/final-cut-pro/tutorials/1305-...-martin-mark-spencer

I watched the video, thank you, 1 serious question, in the Ripple Training Part 3 of the Update, there are 2 projects, how do I know what is linked with what?
He says Qunitessa Charles is linked with the Winery Event, there is no indication to me they are linked, that to me is a serious oversight of no having a visible linking of projects to events.

Look in the Inspector, Info pane, at the bottom, "File Information".

Ms Justine,
All he was doing was moving them around. He knew what projects/clips went where. The name Quintessa Charles was his key.
Re watch just before and he talks about knowing what is related.
For people like me who have multiple drives for each event, files everywhere; this will make it a lot easier to organize the many pieces/files. Who knows, now with meta-data/tags being so important, even I might finally get organized.
The new "Libraries" structure will take some getting used to, but makes more sense to me.
Like how it is not making actual copies like FCP7 used to. Saves lots of space/time.
If I may quote Douglas Adams …"Don't Panic", spend a few days watching videos, play with the new version, and from what I'm seeing, there is less chance of losing files. All Good

To me it seems a huge mistake to have this "updated projects" with the 'clapper-board", why not just have the projects with the clips, 1 project with the clips/media associated with that project in 1 place, to have it all over the place, with no way to visually see a link between "clapper-board" icons and what goes where.

When I first started using the Library design a few months ago, I originally hated it. But after a couple of days, I realized that you have to forget what you knew about Events and Projects, learn the new Libraries design, and I now love it so much. Once you wrap your brain around what is what, it makes more sense, is easier to deal with.
Look for my 2 part article explaining Libraries coming soon to macProVideo.com. It covers updating processes and issues, what a Library is, how it works, ideas for using them, etc.
Those clapper icons are Projects. Did you have empty projects hanging around?

I'm with Ben on this. I agree the Library structure can seem confusing at first glance, but in fact it's as easy as it can be. It allows for far better organization of your work but there are many different ways you can do this and it's really up to you to find the way that best fits your specific workflow. So the first thing you need to do is to get organized yourself.
When we started testing 10.1 the first thing I did was to group all Events and Projects for every client we work for into specific Libraries. For some of our clients we produce over 80 programs per year, which means we had over 200 different Events and associated Projects per client on our central storage system since we started using FCPX in 2011. It took me less than 10 minutes to create 1 Library for each client, containing all his media and all his edits perfectly organized. Each Event in the Library contains its specific edits (program Projects), and we have created separate Events for storing teasers, compilations etc.. that use media from different Events in the same Library. Couldn't be happier.

I hate it when I hit the wrong button and lose my entry. I'll try again.
"updated projects" is the name of an event. The clapper-board indicates a project in that event. Apple put all projects in this made up event (I think) because there was no 100% reliable way of associating a project with a specific event. In any case it's just a starting point that you are almost expected to change. You can move the projects from that event to any event you like. On work you created you'd know the event. Admittedly, that is a bit harder when following lessons from a book.
When you put projects in an event with clips and then select that event you'll see a thumbnail for each project (the clapper-board thing) as well as thumbnails for each clip below the project thumbnails. The clapper-board will make sense, then. It screams "this is a project, not a clip".
The organization you see after the update is just one of many, many ways to organize libraries, events, and projects. You will have to play for a while to find the organization that suits your needs. That not only includes how you are going to use libraries, events, and projects but how and where you will store your media, too. FCPX provides a lot of organizational tools -- you'll have to figure out the best way they work for you.
Good luck. I had to go through a similar learning process when I started using Aperture many years ago. I think it took a good 3 or 4 tries before I eventually wound up with an organization that best fit my work flow.
