FCPX 10.1: Custom Ratio Projects was created by FatsoJetson
So.. here we have the brand new version.. and I got excited about creating custom ratio projects! Most of our videos are 1080p in 2.35:1 ratio. Previously, I simply used the letterbox effect and then exported via a custom Compressor setting..
But with the new version I converted an older project to a custom ratio of 1920x816, which is cool as you get rid of the black bars altogether and don't need to use the letterbox effect anymore. HOWEVER, now the problem with the Spatial conformity arrises, which I have to set to FILL instead of FIT to make the raw HD 16:9 footage conform to the custom ratio. If I then export via a normal 1080p Compressor preset I get the same result as previously.
Would you guys recommend the same workflow? I have noticed that in the older test project the program messed up some clips that now appear "slanted" or distorted in a 45° angle. I suppose this could be due to the third party plugins I use (FilmConvert + NeatVideo NoiseReduction).
Anyway, from now on I will use this workflow for new projects and I hope that none of the corrupted renders appear then!
