File Imports No Video was created by muzbaz
Hi,, New here but lots to read,
I haven't found the answer to my issue yet so wondered if any one can help.

All files that are imported, (MP4, AVI or Mov) appear but none have video or even a thumbnail image, all I have is sound as I run the cursor over the the files.

Can anyone help with this.
Regards
Bazza

Are these clips from a camera or downloaded, or ripped…or something else?

This assortment of containers could have a variety of things inside.

In general, I fond life is easier when faced with an assortment of various types of media if I optimize them beforehand – or upon import. Try optimizing a couple of clips as a test.

The files are from SD memory card which is from my Panasonic TZ30, the files were I believe MTS so considered that to be the problem so I converted them to MPEG4 and tried Quicktime MOV. I left the window open for hours at one point due to when trying to shut down the iMac it said the FCPX was performing tasks in the background showing that it was 14% into a transcoding process, this did not change percentage after leaving it for the whole evening,,
I hope this is enough information to enable help, if you need more then please ask

The problem is that you are running FCPX 10.0.x which does not have native MTS file support.

The good news is that if you upgrade to FCPX 10.1 it should solve your problem.

After upgrading you should try to import directly from the SD Card into FCPX 10.1.

Optimizing media is only necessary if your iMac is to old and slow to handle AVCHD natively.

Thanks, but if I converted the files to MPG4 or MOV files would that not have been a go around the problem?

An update and bump for more help
I have since loaded the footage into iMovie the software would not accept MTS MPG2 files either BUT
it did accept the the MOV files and MPEG4 files as you would expect with visible working thumb nails
and so on.

So why is this not happening with FCPX?

Thanks in advance for any help with this problem,,
