POV's 2013 Documentary Filmmaking Equipment Survey

"POV asked documentarians to share their experiences with equipment and documentary tools - from cameras and lenses to animation software and mobile apps - to create a comprehensive equipment list based on what filmmakers are actually using in the field. Whether you're a novice or veteran, this unique resource will help you make some big decisions."

So my personal big question here is, where the hell are those hundreds of thousands of editors who are switching away from FCP in droves? Was that just some silly Internet myth? Ah, I get it, you guys were pulling my leg! HA! That was funny!

Very interesting indeed!

I was surprised to see the Canon C300 taking top honours.
It's my favourite camera too but it's pretty pricy.

Love some of the silly comments. "Avid is the porsche of editing NLEs!" Gimme a break! More like the people mover of NLEs.

"Macs are expensive, slow, not up-to-date, not 'flexible', not customizable, just good looking', for fan-boys only …"

= 91% of documentarists in this survey use a Mac.
(wow, that is a number!)

hmmmm.... ?

Could it be, that Apple made the right decisions? Axing 'fab'-equipment, offering for the small, fast teams of actual movie-making, small, fast, reliable systems? ... (I know a few guys actually banging their heads against walls, … and fantasizing all kind of arguments, why this survey is wrong.
Has to be wrong.
Has to. :silly: )

Thanks, Ben, for sharing! Really interesting...........
