When exporting to DVD or Blu-ray chapter markers in the timeline now appear on the screen.
Am i creating chapter markers in an improper way or is it the DVD player itself with the settings that I need to adjust.

I believe I might have had the setting add chapter markers as subtitles. Check-boxed in Compressor.
Where would this normally be a desirable setting?

When you literally want subtitles. Create them as the text of Chapter Markers. Presto, perfectly timed subtitles. You could use it for many things, such as language translations, extra info you want to give the audience, production notes for an edit preview you're sending to a director or producer (I've done this several times and love it), to name a few.
