Sharing Compound Clips

Hello all,

I have a custom shaped compound clip (640 x 640) which is made from a rendered Motion project.

The clip I imported was 12 seconds long and, after doing some stuff in FCPX the final compound clip is actually 15 seconds long.

I then made 30 copies, all of which have slight differences.

When I export them from the Event Browser (which unfortunately I can't seem to do as a batch) it only exports the 1st 12 seconds (the length of the original imported clip)

Exporting from the timeline seems fine, but that is an extra stage (open in timeline) that, I'm sure your understand, I would rather avoid.

Has anyone else come across this? Any workarounds?

Wouldn't it be great if an app like event manager could do things like transcode from outside FCPX...

Did you edit the 12 second clip in a new timeline to make the 15 sec version? Or did you edit the compound clip from the event browser by double clicking and editing from there? My only guess to your problem is that of the latter. If that is the case, you will want to make sure that each compound clip was built in a timeline rather than entering the original compound clip.

A batch export would be awesome. Something like Adobe Media Encoder's watch folders would be great.

If you place a Compound Clip into a Timeline, it is limited to the duration set inside the Timeline. If you add to it, you need to trim it to be longer in the original Timeline. Sounds like what is happening.

But this should be very obvious. If you open the Compound Clip, and if it is in a Timeline, and if it is trimmed shorter in that Timeline, when you open the CC itself the trimmed off segment should be shaded with hash marks to reflect that.

Be sure you are creating the CC in the Browser, and opening from there, so you do not get the parent Timeline issue that can limit what will export.

Thanks peeps,

My situation is rather unique.

Because my final output is 640 x 640 px I can only work in Compound Clips and not normal timelines. This is because you can only make projects of sizes that Apple, in Its infinite wisdom, decides. Here in the UK, I cannot even do standard NTSC, although I'm sure that could be fixed with the region control panel or something...

Therefore, Jaf, I can only use hte first example you mentioned. I have no choice but to circumnavigate projects and work from the event browser. I guess next time I will need to be more prepared.
