Solution for wonky behavior?

Suddenly, 10.0.9 is exhibiting the strangest behaviors. One is Snapping cannot be activated; not by keystroke, not by menu item, not by mouse click. Two: Timeline Index can be clicked open, but shows no clips, no tags, no roles. And then can't be closed by any means. 3: clips can't be extended by dragging the edge, or by changing duration (Cntrl-D).
I have trashed prefs using Preference Manager, repaired disc prefs, changed keyboards, disconnected my Wacom tablet and gone to mouse, uninstalled the GoPro Studio app.
Is this the time to reinstall FCPX? And what to expect by doing so?
TIA

Well, I did drag FCPx application to trash, and installed again from the App Store. Same weird behaviors. Another two are that altho' only one audio role is green, all are playing (still no response from TL Index, but when I click on the icon to shut it, the search bar becomes selected). And choosing the tildé, it cannot be turned off, but P or A tool can be changed. My new theory/concept/grab at straw is maybe the cat, when he walked on the keyboard yesterday, set something in motion…I will now open again and create a new custom keyboard…

Hi Gretta,

Those are really weird issues you are having. I have no clue what can have caused it, but a cat on a keyboard is certainly a recipe for disaster. Those paws can create the weirdest keyboard combinations. Hope you will be able to solve this, keep us informed.

I had some of these issues, not all, and some extra.... seemed to be related to updating to Mavericks...only way around it for me was to create a new user account and run fcpx within it....I also made a completely clean boot disk with mavericks and fcpx which works fine too...

followed this Kb support.apple.com/kb/HT5149 to the letter. No change. Thinking maybe 3rd party plugins?

Thank you, seanchas. After all the above, and reinstalling Lion, all was the same. I have now gone thru the hassle of creating a NEW USER, all the prefs etc. connected with that, and FCPX is now/so far working fine, back to 'normal'.
What does 'new user' set to default that could not be fixed any other way?
Also, in the olden days, we had a check box to say that we wanted FCP keystrokes to override the Finder's. Is there an equivalent today (pre-mavericks)?

Where did we have a place to tell FCP to over ride the Finder? I've never seen that. Would have been a nice feature to include in the training books.

It was decades ago, and maybe it was only for laptops, or Expose (y'kno; F10, etc), or maybe it was to override MS macros, I dunno, but there are some key commands that are finder things: F14 and F15 control screen brightness, e.g. So what if I want to use them in FCP?
While I have you here: how do I bring the plug-ins over to the new user I am now forced to edit behind?
TIA, Gretta

Yes, laptops. A System Preferences setting to make the F keys act like F keys by default, and use the Fn key to make the media (icons on keys) work. Because by default the F keys were media keys. Yeah, that was laptop specific. Not over riding the Finder. I remember that. Still have to teach it, too.

Just like any other NLE, if you edit with another editor, you both have to have the same third party plugins installed to use them. No way to automatically bring them over. Don't know any third party developer who'd allow that many free copies to be distributed.

If they are paid plugins, you have to get a license. If they're freebies, just install them on your system.

One odd situation I've encountered is messed-up keyboard preferences. Reverting to the default set (from the Final Cut Pro menu → Commands) occasionally fixes these 'This key used to do x and now it's broken' sorts of problems, albeit at the cost of all your customisations.
