Annoying .THM files created by Canon 7d was created by stkirkland
Hi:
I'm sure if you've used a 7d you've run into the annoyance of the .thm files that come attached with your footage files (.MOV). I've recently had issue with them when using the "Show Package Contents" of a Camera Archive. I was copying all the footage onto an external drive for archiving and I have to do a finder search in the folder for the .thm files, then select all, and move to trash. Surely, surely there is a way to disable these from being imported or generated originally?
If anyone knows, shed light. Thank you very much!

Not really an answer, here, but... I'm curious to know what kind of issue you ran into with the Camera Archive and the .thm files. Could you explain it better?
For myself, I even find them to be useful, because they contain a lot of informations about the shooting, that's to say shutter speed, initial focal length, iso, aperture...
I've even produced a OS service to read the .thm files and put all these informations in a text file in the same directory in which the .thm (and .mov) files are.

I've never imported the .THM files and there's no reason to. Final Cut will automatically NOT import them if you're importing directly from the card. Sort your card by File Type and then you can just drag only the .MOV files over if you make a copy to the hard drive before importing to your NLE. The .THM files are just small thumbnails and/or info so you know what you're looking at in the camera when you're selecting through different video shots you've taken. It's only useful in the camera.

Oh, no it's fine when you import into FCPX. The .thm files don't interfere. But when I'm trying to deal with the files any other time (dragging over to a drive to archive, for instance) the files are there. They're only on the 7D; whenever I deal with footage shot on a 5D or the t4i I use, they don't produce the files. Why only the 7d? It's more annoying than anything.

They're there on my 5D and 7D. But like I said if you just change the window and sort by File Type or Kind or whatever Mac OS labels it, it's much easier to drag the relevant stuff over when you do it manually.

Well personally I love the THM files as when coupled with a decent transcodes they provide time of day Timecode. Much better than every clip starting at 00:00:00:00.

I second what Seanus said. It's another information THM files have, other that ss, iso, ap, etc... They can be very useful.
