Hi all,
I am dealing with a national TV station (Australian) and have done for many years. They insist that they get there SD material in MXF format. In the past with FCP 7 I have used XD Cam transfer to achieve this through Export XD cam in FCP 7. My workflow has been to do the edit in FCPX and then export a master file, transfer that to FCP7 then export using XD cam export. Recently the station rang to say for some inexplicable reason they could no longer archive my MXF files (IMX 50- see specs below). Seeing I want to avoid using FCP7 altogether could anyone suggest a workflow just involving FCPX to achieve the same result.

This is their recommendation which I follow fairly closely.

EXPORTING HD FILES FOR CHANNEL 7 OUT OF FCP
1. Install Sony XDCAM Transfer Version 2.13.0 (available as a free download from Sony’s website).
2. Nest the sequence you want to export into a clean timeline.
3. Unlink the vision and audio and make the stereo audio tracks mono. Add 6 more audio tracks to
make 8 in total.
4. Under the “Sequence” tab click / Settings / Audio Output. Select 8 audio output tracks; make them
all dual mono and 0db. Hit ok.
NB: FCP automatically defaults to down-mix all tracks of audio to 2 tracks only. When more than 2 outputs are selected, go to the sequence and change the audio outputs individually on the sequence. Otherwise, all 8 tracks created above, will down-mix and blowout the 2 resultant tracks.
Please note the following screenshot:
A5 is mixing down to A1 - this must change to 5 - then 4 changes to 4, etc.
5. Mark in and out on timeline and go to File / Export / SonyXDCAM.
6. Select the XDCAM HD422 1080i 50 CBR option. Select Anamorphic 16:9 option. Choose your
output folder, export.

Thanks

Ian

Here's some different workflow options for you. I haven't had to use them but they are available:

Thanks for your reply, it looks good however for $700 E it looks a bit pricy, are there any other suggestions?
