External Hard Drive was created by massimiliano72
Hi, I have purchased the nwe MacBook Pro 13'' - i5 - 8 RAM - 256 GB
I want to buy an external Hard Drive for editing with FCPX
It's possible to take an USB 3.0 HD? Or the Thunberbolt thecnology is fundamental?
I have read online that is better to have 2 HD external, one for the clips and another for the project. Why?
thank you for all

In Italian Videomakers forum
I read that with 2 separated HD there's an increase of velocity in editing

This was in reference to FCPX? I've not heard this before. Maybe it's true.

Yes... FCPX
However... can I use an USB 3.0 Hard Drive or I'm forced to take Thunderbolt?

Depends on the format you're working with. USB3 should be fine for most things.

I use external USB3 drives for my editing.
One WD Black Caviar (?) 2.5" 750gb and one cheap Seagate 3.5" 2TB drive. Both are 7200rpm and work fine.
TB is still rediculous and some of the TB drives you buy actually have 5400rpm HDs in them! Seems like a total waste to me, especially when they're a lot more expensive...

2 externals, one for clips and one for projects? i reckon best benefits the multi-processor, multi-core environment with lots of memory and fcpx creating two+ execution threads. damn, that'd be fast. for most of us though its USB3 and the equipment on hand.
