Question about organizing clips

Question about organizing clips was created by kazuhaga
Hi, I'm pretty new to FCP and have a question about organizing clips while editing video.
I'm trying to make a movie from about 20 different raw videos. What I would like is some way to create folders/event/projects so that I can pull clips out of each video and organize them into categories. For example, each one of the videos I'm pulling from have parts that I want to put in the beginning, in the middle, and in the end of the final product. I was hoping I can just create events or folders called "Beginning" "Middle" and "End" and drag clips into them, but when I do that it pulls the entire video into that event, rather than just the little clip that I want.
What I would like to do is go through through all 20 videos and pulled out just the portions I want to use, then watch all of them WITH the other clips in that same category and then begin to figure out what order I want to place them in.
I'm pretty new to video editing so I hope I'm able to articulate what I'm looking to do. Any help would be appreciated, I have a feeling this is a simple thing to do if you know what you're doing.

I'd say read the manual, but that would be cruel.
Use either Favorites or keywords. In your case keywords would be better. I'd suggest looking at the documentation if this is unclear but... Before you do any editing, open the keyword panel and create your 3 (or more) keywords. Then, as you watch your clips in the event browser (don't cut anything into a sequence yet), mark ranges for the sections you'd like to categorize (using I/O keys or dragging out a range on the clip), and apply one or more keywords to that range. Do that on all your source clips. Keyword collections will appear in your event (like bins) that contain just the ranges you've marked. Once you've gone through all your clips you can select each keyword collection and watch the clips, skim through them, cut them int a project, whatever. It's really easy.
Favorites work similarly, but Keywords are what you want to have a bunch of different categories
