You can burn a very simple DVD in FCPX. Just select your edit, choose Share > DVD and insert a disc in your Mac.
Or you can export your edit as a Master File (Share > Master File) and use a DVD authoring program to make a DVD from the master file. Here's a list of five DVD programs for Mac: www.techrepublic.com/blog/five-apps/five...dvd-authoring-tools/

Yes you can. You need to add chapter markers for this. Read the FCPX help to learn how to do this, or watch this tutorial:

DVDs are an old medium. DVDs that you burn yourself will not be compatible with every DVD player. There's nothing you can do about this unless you send your DVD to a professional DVD replication facility.

Best you can do is to use the standard settings you find in FCPX or any DVD program. Then you burn a DVD and you test in on different DVD players. If it plays well on different systems you will be OK.

It depends on the version of iDVD you have. Google "iDVD themes" and you should find the answer.

iDVD still works flawlessly in Mountain Lion - sorry yours has lost the themes. Here's where they should be stored: Library/Application Support/iDVD/Themes - and in that folder there is a unique folder for each version of iDVD: iDVD 7, iDVD 6, etc. Maybe they just got accidentally dragged to another location on your drive??? The file names are things like "Bands-Main.theme" and "Bands-Chapters.theme" if you want to search. I still have themes all the way back to V.1.
Whether using iDVD or not, the best advice for widest DVD player compatibility is to burn slow. Even if you have 16x speed disks and/or burner, burn at 8x or even 6x or 4x if you have the time. I've burned over 50 DVDs in 2013 alone (one at a time on my 2008 MacPro) - none came back with problems being played. In fact, the only real problem I've ever had with compatibility was a stuffed full DL DVD that would not play reliably on a really low end ancient Windows laptop. If by any chance you can get iDVD back going, write back and I can give more tips.
