Best way to disable original audio when I get a mix back from sound design

Right now I'm having to select the clips manually and disable the audio in the inspector. This is a pain and I can't just select everything in the timeline and disable all audio for some reason. Is there an easier way to do this? I just need all the original audio off so I can replace it with the mixed version.

Hi Julian,

Assign a custom Role name to your mixed audio clip (e.g. Final Mix) and add the clip to your Timeline.

Then open the Timeline Index and deselect all audio Roles (Dialogue, Music, Effects etc...) except the Role of the final mix.

Be careful though, as if you export that file, **disabled Roles will still export!** If you want to be sure they're inaudible on export, just select all audio clips except the mix (easy to do in the clip index) and disable them (V key)

Can't sleep? Try this: fcpxpert.net ;-)

Good remark! Yes, you should disable your Roles before you export. Quite easy, here's a vid explaining this:

The explanation starts at around 2 minutes.

Great tip to disable all clips w/same name, but I export a Master File with Roles as a Multitrack QT movie, choosing the only audio Role is the Mixdown. This way you don't have to fiddle with the timeline Index at all.

Hi Gretta,

That is indeed a good method as well, and a faster one if you have lots of Roles.
