Hello, I have fcp 10.0.5 I want to export my film to an extern hard-disc, what format shall I use to get the best quality for making a dvd to send to a shortfilm.festival for example?? I tried the format "apple prores 444" which I thought was the best, but while exporting ,it comes a message saying: it failed, error no. 108, frame 9417"
The frame I think it is , is a black "intermission" from the generators called "custom" (solids) that I put there to get a pause between two clips..Does anyone recognize this? :-) Katti

A Google search will find many references to this problem, especially with older versions of the software, such as you're using. First you should update to the current version 10.0.9.

Adding to what Tom said:

If you have compound clips on your timeline you may be reluctant to update from 10.0.5 before you have an exported video of your project. In that case, and if you think the generator is causing the export error, you can probably get around the issue by deleting the generator and replacing it with a gap. This will give you the same visual pause in your edit. If the generator is on your Primary Storyline select it and press SHIFT+DELETE to replace the generator with a gap without shifting the clips on the storyline.

In some cases people have solved this export error by deleting the Project render files before exporting.

If none of this solves your problem you will have to update anyway.

What format was the original media? How long is the project? A DVD can only be 720p so you're never going to get anything great out of that regardless.

When you go to the share menu and select "master file" and go to settings, you can click on the "video codec" drop down menu and you will see a list of all the formats, but at the top it will say what the source media is. Now, someone correct me if I'm wrong, but whatever your source media is, you will not be able to get anything higher than that. So you can select prores 4444 all day long, but all that will do is make your file bigger than it needs to be.
