Hi
I am a amateur film maker in the middle of trying to cut my first movie. I accidentally filmed all my shots with the 23.98 FR. Unfortunantely my editor friend stills uses FCP 6 as he prefers its interface. He does not understand how to transform the footage from 23.98 to 25 FR within FCP 6. When we view the footage hence on full-screen the footage is jerky. Can anyone please offer a suggestion, I have FCP X and can change the FR to 25 FR. But I don't really know what to do, any help?
Many thanks,
Simon

In FCP6 he would have to use Film Tools to convert the original 24fps footage to 25fps. The converted video and its audio will run 4% faster than the original video, but this is common practice and it's much better than the jerkiness you get when you play 24fps on a 25fps timeline.
In FCPX you create a 25fps timeline, you drop all the 24fps footage onto it and you apply Conform Speed to the footage. Just like with Cinema tools (Conform Speed in FCPX actually IS Cinema Tools) the video will run 4% faster and you won't notice any jerkiness.
You CAN convert 24fps to 25fps without speeding up the video using Compressor or any other format conversion app. But it takes a lot of tweaking and trial and error AND extreme long render times to create a final 25fps video from 24fps without jerky frames. As no-one really notices the 4% speed difference many of us in Europe use the Conform Speed option in Cinema Tools (and now in FCPX) to convert 24fps for 25fps television, or we use dedicated (and super-expensive) conversion hardware such as Alchemist to do the conversion without any speed changes.
P.S.: I do hope your video is NOT interlaced, as this will cause more trouble.

Hi Ronny,
Thanks for your advice, thankfully I think the framerate issue is no longer a problem and I will be able to cut my first film,
All the best,
Simon Kureshi
