Don't know what polling netiquette is on fcp.co, but I'm curious how many, if any, of the users on the forum are interested in or have actually received Apple FCPX certification, either the associate certificate or the full certification or the trainer certification.

You can can email me if you prefer using info at fcpxbook dot com.

Thanks very much.

I've been a cert'd Pro User, Level 2 since version 4.
I've been a cert'd FCP trainer, Level 2 since version 4.5.
I've been a cert'd Master trainer (covers all FCStudio apps) since version 5.
I re-cert'd for 10.0 Level 2, and Motion 5 the day the trainer tests came on line.

Great idea Tom! I'm super interested in who is certified, and who would like to become certified.

I was Apple Pro Certified in Final Cut Pro 7 but immediately stopped using that program the day Final Cut Pro X was released. In the past two and a half years not a single company or client has asked me about any certification, so I haven't found any benefit to being certified. Having said that, I am still open to it. Can you provide us with a convincing argument for being certified? I would love to hear what you have to say.

Here's what I tell me students who ask about it.

It is not for everyone. If you're already working, and have a good resume, probably not of any use. If you're just starting out, or if you're applying for a job that requires it, it can be of value.

I know several folks who took the test just to prove something to themselves, and there is nothing wrong with trying to achieve personal goals.

Just like a college degree, jobs won't appear at your door step because of it. It depends on how you parlay it into being an asset to meet your needs.

There is a new Associate cert that is designed for educators that has picked up a bit of a following in those circles.

Depends on what you'd use if for, if you need it at all.

Thanks! As I am developing my own FCPX training, I will look into the new Associate certification once the new version of FCPX is released.

I went thru nearly all of the FCP5 Apple Pro Training series, DVD, book and lesson files for my own benefit.
Started with FCP4 learning by experimentation, hence the migration to the training with FCP5.

Creating history....one edit at a time !

Actually Classes are picking up here in the Middle East (Lebanon),
but nobody's really interested in the Apple Certification, but many are starting to get interested in FCPX!
Individual Training and customized courses seems to be what most are looking for..
have been training for 3 months non stop now..

Heh.. and just got a call for an FCP 7 training.. Poor Guy! Hope I can change his mind.. For his own good :)

have been a trainer since 2009 (FCP7) and as soon as FCPX Cert. was on as well.

I couldn't agree more Ben, it's really not for Everyone. It really depends on each students/Company needs.

but most who are asking for training have seen FCPX in Action and recognized how fast it goes!

Is being certified free? If not, then I don't really see the value. If so, then yeah I'd definitely be interested. I'd fall into the group of "trying to prove something to myself". It'd also give me something to brag about to my friends so that they think my life is better than it actually is. All my friends like it when I brag, I'm sure of it.

I'm not interested in certification; no client has ever asked me whether I can use an editing application. Collaborators just want to know if I can do the edit and fit into the established workflow.

However, I do suggest that people who want to learn Final Cut to use the course books to learn:

"People pay for training courses, but many trainers use the same book, so if you want to save some money or if you can't take the time off when the courses are on, you should learn using the official certification book"

I never got certified in the decade I was on Legacy FCP, so as a person goal (and an excuse to finally make it to NAB), I got certified Level 1. And now that FCPX is being upgrade I guess that will be out the window... OH well, I'm glad I did it once.

And even if I don't do it again, I'll probably be back at NAB next year because there were so many great Post Production World session with the Ripple Training guys I wasn't able to attend because the certification course was so all-consuming. Plus there'll be so much to cover with the new FCPX (and hopefully Motion) coming out this month.

There are things you get from the class room experience that you can't get from the book alone.
