Delete video/audio in fcpx at the same time

Good evening;

I am a new user to final cut pro x. I have a practice video feed that I need to remove short clips of audio/video due to no sound. Am planning to use a transition between clips. I tried to cut the area, and when I cut the area, it would not delete the area correctly. If I deleted the video that was cut, it would not delete the audio, and when I deleted the audio, it deleted all of the audio that was remaining on the entire clip (even the audio that did not need to be deleted). Any suggestions would be appreciated.

I'm not sure I completely understand. You want to delete a section of audio and video, but one of the channels of audio you want to keep? You audio is detached from the video I assume? You can disable channels of audio in the inspector in the audio tab. if it shows up as stereo you can change it to dual mono and disable the channel. There is also a command called 'break apart clip items" in the clip menu. If you have numerous channels of audio it should break them apart into individual clips. If not just disable those channels in the inspector.

Let me know if this resolves your issue.

If you are just chopping out sections of audio and video have you been using the "blade" tool?
shift+cmd+b to cut all tracks.

Thanks for the response. I did use the blade tool and had the same results. I was able to delete the video but when I tried to delete the audio portion, the portion that I cut plus the remaining part of the audio clip was deleted as well. The audio clip acts as if it is still attached even though I have cut it.

… because it IS still attached to the video-clip? ;)

here's a clip; audio detached; audio split; two separate audio-clips; when you erase the video, BOTH audio-clips will 'poof!" ... cause both are still attached to the 'mother' …

Is that what you notice?

Hi Barry,

As Karsten says: this is probably related to clip connections.

When you have such a very specific issue it is always best to post a screenshot of the problem so we can have a better idea of what's happening.

I'm a beginner too, so I very well remember my 'basic' issues with this app! :lol:

What I forget to mention, my ceterum censeo
FCPX has no tracks!

So, although the green bars appear like on a different 'layer', these connectors are still … ehm, connecting! When you're used to use track-based NLEs, it is for sure surprising, why or how one track could have an effect on another…

If you have not detached the audio clips, but rather expanded them, then you can collapse the audio back into the video clip. Now when you use the blade tool to cut, you will be removing both the video section with its corresponding audio section as you desire to do.
