Hello
I have just recently been offered a position to work as a FCPX technical support/editor person assisting university students in learning the ins and outs FCPX. The gig is being set up as a 5 year project whereby six 5min videos are to be made a year (this whole project is a small part of a BA course that the students will be taking). I have been asked to give a lump sum dollar figure for my efforts as well as an hourly rate.....i must say that i am unsure of what that should be. If anyone has done something similar and is willing to share their thoughts on what would be a fair dollar figure i would be interested in finding out your experiences.
Any assistance would be appreciated.
Regards
Krzysztof

Don't know your hardware needs, but as far as pricing for yourself hourly; I would say minimum $30 an hour. I got paid $175 to teach 2 classes at a for profit college last year, which wasn't half bad hourly. You have to figure out that your coming up with lesson plans, grading, setting up...all on time that they are not paying you for.
On a side note: i just came up with an idea that i think would be cool to try in a 4 year college, tell me if this is already happening in the film schools. anyways, a 4 year project that you are expected to have done the year you graduate. First year could be coming up with the idea for your main project...which is where your taking regular classes anyway so your not technically savvy to do much more than that. Second year could be the filming of your project, which is when your taking camera courses and lighting techniques. Third year could be taking your editing classes, which then you would edit your film. And 4th year could be advanced editing like color correction and graphics, which could be when your putting final touches to your film.
It could really help someone make a long piece, maybe an hour to two hour project. this is probably already occurring, but i didn't go to a school that did this.
