Hi:
I'm continuously trying to improve my system, as I'm sure everyone here is. I'm thinking of getting a SSD and only putting FCPX on it. Will this improve my performance dramatically? I believe a new processor would do the most good, in terms of performance, but looking at this as an option.
Currently, I have FCPX (along with Compressor and Motion, left over from FCP7) on a standard 7200 HD. My system runs off its own drive. I keep all Events & Projects on separate 7200 HDs or, if the project/client demands it, I have external drives that house those items. My processor is the Quad Core Intel Xeon 2.8 GHz.
One option for the SSD I've been reading about is the OWC Mercury Accelsior_E2 PCI card, which is a SSD with 2 eSATA ports as a bonus. eshop.macsales.com/shop/SSD/PCIe/OWC/Mercury_Accelsior/RAID
Any feedback, opinions, advice is welcome. Thank you, people!

It's always a delicate balance of memory, processor(s), drive speed and available space, etc. A slightly faster hybrid 7200 or SSD just for running the programs would be of some help but not dramatic IMHO. Hopefully any externals connect with at least USB 3 or faster alternate. The eSATA card sounds great but optimal benefit would be if all avenues on your information highway play at the same speed. Just my two cents worth.

What Mac model GPU are you running?

Decent GPU, I'd not consider upgrading it if you're looking at the new 2013 Mac Pro coming soon. But, depending on what goes on with the next upgrade for FCPX, you may want to upgrade or add then. We'll have to wait and see. I'm running the 5870 and am very happy with the performance.
An SSD system drive would help, but moving FCP X to a different drive than the OS won't. Also, I've got 16GB RAM, 2008 MP, and am very happy with performance. Bearing in mind that there will be a limit to what any system can squeeze out.

I thought having FCPX on it's own drive (it's bootable, too, with all the system files on it) would help it's performance. So, it's actually a hindrance? If so, I'll move it to my main HD and keep that drive for other events/projects/raw footage.
I recently upgraded from 8GB to 16GB RAM. I can see some difference for sure.
Thanks for your input!
