best workflow to import Sony raw files from FS700 to fcpx? was created by flean
Could anyone tell me what would be the best way (workflow) to import 2/4K Sony raw files in fcpx for editing?
Thanks

I guess by "raw" you mean the native FS700 NXCAM (AVCHD) compressed video?
That's very easy in FCPX. Just put the CF or SD card in your card reader and launch FCPX. Choose File > Import (CMD+I) to open the Import window, where your card will appear. Select the card and choose Import All, or select specific clips you want to import from the card and then choose Import Selected.
If you want to play safe and you don't want to import straight from the card, just copy the ENTIRE folder structure from the card over to your hard drive, then disconnect the card reader and launch FCPX to import your video from the card structure on your hard drive.
If you are working on a fast system you will be able to edit the AVCHD video natively. If it's 4K or if your system is not really fast you might consider optimizing your imported video to ProRes for faster editing.
If for whatever reason straight importing should not work for you, you can use ClipWrap to re-wrap the MTS files to QT or convert them to ProRes and import the converted files in FCPX.
Whatever you do, do NOT convert your FS700 video to ProRes with any external conversion application such as the ones that are often spammed whenever a similar question is posted on a forum. These applications deliver sub-standard quality video and should not be used for serious work.

Hi Ronny,
I meant RAW as in 2K/4K raw files. the Sony FS700 is coupled with the HXR-IFR5 interface and AXS-R5 recorder to give us the ability to shoot RAW.
Has anyone shot RAW with these?

Yep that's real RAW
I haven't received any such footage for editing yet and I'm sure FCPX does not support it natively at this time, but that may change very, very soon now.
But here's an interesting read form someone who is actually using this camera with the RAW recorder:

Look at the bottom of the article, where he talks about getting the footage into FCPX.

Thanks Ronny for the link. Very good info.
I think we 'll use Da Vinci Resolve lite to transcode and get the files to fcpx.
