Hi team,

Any idea how I take out big speck of dust on blue sky, the shot is static so spot doesn't move.

I need to try and get the film out today

Many thanks Neil

CoreMelt's "SliceX" has a tool that will do this "rotoscope" fucntion very easily and quickly.

Dust? I once removed a absent minded photographer walking behind a bride and groom during a reveal once! Within FCPX. Took a few weeks with my schedule. Lo and behold, Slice X comes out a week later!

Anywho...

Stack a duplicate clip of your footage on top of each other. Detach/delete audio if have any. Mask a portion of the sky. then move that portion over your dust speck. If that is the portion of sky matches...I,m sure you could do it.

This definitely should work, particularly if it's a static shot. As stated, mask out the upper clips dust speck, (apply the Mask or Circle Mask filter - found under "keying" in the filter effects browser) select the lower clip and move it a little to show clear sky. Adjust the mask size and edge feather etc and possibly tweak color of lower clip a little to get a good match. Done. Should take about 5 minutes if you've never done it, and no additional anything required. That said, Slice-X s amazing and should be in everyones tool box. :-)

macProVideo just published an article about how to do this inside Motion and FCPX. I didn't write it, but it is a really great solution.

Hi Gang

I've just finally got around getting the full version of Slice X (primarily to remove objects)
Any idea how to get the toolbar onto the screen though ?

I can seem to access it.

Below is my screen (no tool bar ?)

Can't see the screenshot on my iPad but you have to select the effect in the inspector to bring up the toolbar. Hope this helps!

Hi

thanks

Actually, I had to restart FCPX after installing the plug in and then the tool bar appeared.

slso , sorry. another basic question. If I've worked on a plug in (say Object remover) but decide against using it how do I reset the clip back to original clip. So far I've been deleting the clip and re importing it onto my timeline. I'm sure this isn't the best way to start again ?

THanks

Neil

You can either uncheck the blue checkbox in the inspector to toggle the effect off (maybe you want to turn it back on later?) or you can remove the effect by selecting it in the inspector and hitting delete.

BTW, it is possible to apply multiple SliceX-effects to the same clip. Try it out and toggle on and off to see the difference.
