Multicam and separate audio

Multicam and separate audio was created by alven
The multi cam function has been working perfectly for me until I was going had to sync up extra audio for mixing.
The raw audio appears to be longer than the multi cam clip which means it will get out of sync at some point. does this mean that the multi cam cuts frames?
they audio guy says he wants the full audio clip, not cut into pieces from the muticam clip. but this is close to impossible if I want to use the multi cam function it seems like.
I don't want to go back and edit the old way, but I don't know if there is any other way?

Hi alven,
It would be helpful if you would give at least some basic information on your workflow. If we don't know what's inside this multicam and how you have cut it, nor what is the format and the origin of the "raw audio" you want to add to the multicam edit it's very hard to find out what is happening.

I am not sure about the footage, but I am pretty sure it came compressed from an SD card.
Also I don´t know about the separate audio, but I know that these would have been able to match up if it had not been for the multicam clip.
I have synced up 4 video cameras and one audio recording, and I have used the audio recording for the whole clip, Ive cut between the cameras using proxy media, and the angle viewer. I have made quite a lot of cuts, but it doesn´t appear to be "real cuts" in the timeline, only dotted lines.
I am not really sure what else to say..

Dotted lines indicate "through" edits, which means they are just cuts inside the same angle and not real multicam cuts.
Anyway, lets' deal with the audio first.
So you have synched 4 cameras to one external audio recording. Then you have cut just the video of the cameras in your muliticam and in your final edit you only hear the external audio which hasn't been cut, is that correct?
And now you want to add the external audio recording back under your multi cam which has exactly the same uncut external audio, is this correct?

Yes that is correct, it is the same audio as in the multicam clip, but when I pace it on the timeline under the edited multicam clip, it does not sync because the audio is a bit longer than the multicam audio.
All I did was to copy the audio from the multicam clip and I pased it in the timeline, and yet it does not match.

In most cases this is due to the fact that the original audio file has a different sample rate than your multicam timeline audio.
There are ways to fix this, but I don't see any reason for adding the original audio back to your multicam anyway, because it is exactly the same audio that you have been using in your multi cam.
Just export your multicam project as an AIFF (audio only) file and send this file to your audio guy. When his work is done he will send you a new audio file that you can place under your multicam to replace the existing audio. Just make sure the file he sends you back has exactly the same format and sample rate as the file you have sent him. As the sample rate of your multicam audio and his new file will match you will have no synch issues when you replace the existing multicam audio with his file.

Thanks for that suggestion, but the reason why I am doing this is because they usually send him the whole video, witch also has sound effects and music, and get back a file in the same duration as the video, and replace the audio with that one clip that he send me. That is what I have been told.

Ah, I'm starting to understand the workflow. So your multicam is part of a larger timeline that also has other audio and effects inside. Yes, in that case I think it is best to export the entire multicam edit and bring this back as one clip into your main timeline.
Duplicate the Project (to keep an original version of your multi cam), export the multicam edit and bring the exported multicam clip back in the Project. Then replace the original multicam edit with the single multicam clip.
This way when you send your complete project to the audio guy the audio from the multicam will reference the exported multicam file and not the original external audio that appears to have a different sample rate. Good idea!!

Yes that is it. I am sorry I forgot to tell you that the multicam is just a part of a video.
Thanks for all the help, it made things a lot easier for me now!
