Blur effect was created by Feral Media
Hi all,

I'm having trouble applying a professional looking blur effect to a shot. Its an image of people swimming in a lake and id like to blur out only a portion of the picture to gain a kind of tilt shift effect. I've tried using the directional blur but non of them seem to give the option of being moved around. I must be missing something as this seems to be quite a simple effect. Help me please.

Re the picture Id like to blur only the hills and then feather to sharp shots of swimmers.

Thanks.

Just do a web search for tilt shift filter/effect for FCP X. There are a lot of options, some paid, some free. I think Alex4D has a free filter, there's a reasonable paid plugin on fcpeffects.com as well.

Can't sleep? Try this: fcpxpert.net ;-)

Here's a free plugin:

www.fcp.co/forum/simulated-effects/9811-...-for-final-cut-pro-x

And some paid plugins:

www.fcpeffects.com/products/miniaturize

itunes.apple.com/app/tilt-shift-for-fina...ro/id482906037?mt=12

If you want full custom control just create the effect in Motion using a soft bezier mask and animate it with Motion's tracker system, or get Slice-X/Mocha (paid) which will allow for perfect multipoint masking and powerful tracking right inside FCPX.
