Hello & Thanks in Advance for any Input Provided. I'm sure there are different schools of thought on this, but I'm willing to hear any and all.

Here are the basic specs on a project I'm working on and a couple of key questions to follow:

Ultimate and Primary Distribution Via: Youtube, DVD

Project Setting: 1080i HD, 1920x1080, 29.97 fps, Render Format: Apple ProRes 422

I'm importing footage from several Sony Cams and some GoPro without creating optimized media on import. The following are clip details from the info inspector after import:

1. Basic Info From Top of Inspector: Frame Sizes Consist of: 1440x1080 - 1080i, and some 1920x1080 - 1080 i and p

2. Main Cam Codecs Consist of: HDV 1080i60 (25 Mb/s), Linear PCM (Sony HDV Cams), Apple ProRes 422, Linear PCM (Sony HDR Cams), Go Pros clips are pre-import conversion to .mov's. Imported Frame Size: 1920x1080p, Imported Codec: AAC, H.264

QUESTIONS:

1. If I don't create optimized media when the option exists upon import, does this have any bearing on the final project export, which will be primarily an .mov file for upload to youtube or burn to DVD?

2. With mix of 1080i and p Frame Sizes, as well as 1440 vs 1920, should I be concerned with interlacing or de-interlacing that may take place on project export, depending on the project setting - currently 1080i HD, 1920x1080?

3. On that note, should I consider changing project settings to 1080p, even though the majority of footage is 1080i? There's a chance, this could be distributed later as a "True HD" offering on BlueRay.

4. Should I trust what I've heard about FCPX (I'm using latest version) and let the project setting deal with the details?

Thanks Again,
Sean

"Go Pros Pre-Import Conversion to .mov's. Imported Frame Size: 1920x1080p, Imported Codec: AAC, H.264"

Do not do this. Never ever used compressed audio in production. When you convert, convert to linear PCM 48k.

1. No.

2. It would be better if the project was progressive rather than interlaced.

3. Yes.

4. I don't know what you've heard.
