FCPX Transition Length

I have a custom transition created in Motion. It's a little out of the ordinary in that it's only 5 frames long. It's for a very fast frame flip for a sequence of around 20 stills and the client wants a very quick flip through.

I've checked the 'Override FCPX' in the motion project which *should* override FCPX default transition length, but FCPX still refuses to allow me to add this transition at only 5 frames, instead insisting it be 22 frames. I'm on a 25p timeline, so 25 frames I could understand, but 22 has me quite confused.

What do I need to do to let me have a 5 frame transition made in Motion?

Maybe...
Create a 1 second Transition template in Motion.
Then create the 5 frame flip in the center 5 frames.

Thanks Ben. I tried that, but what happens is that FCPX is now only giving me the centre frame of the 5 and I'm losing the first two and last two, so it's not really cropping the start and end, it's more like it's squeezing it. I guess I'll try making the transition longer in Motion and see how FCPX interpolates it.

OK - well you learn something every day.

What I did was to make the transition happen over an entire second instead of the middle 5 frames and threw it on the timeline by selecting all clips and then double clicking on the transition. FCPX basically squeezed the entire one second transition in to 5 frames and it works great!

Hmmm..... :)

Thanks again Ben!

Did you make sure that both the red and green clips in the Template overlap for the duration?

Yes, in fact they overlapped for all but one frame.
