Hi there,

I'm new to FCP X and hoping to teach myself the basics over the next few weeks.

I've downloaded a trial version and wish to download and import clips from youtube into FCP X in order to edit. Once i have done this I would like to upload my re-edited videos to vimeo.

I'd be most grateful if anyone is able to advise me the best way to download clips and import clips into FCP x.

Also if you're able to advise what project settings i should employ that would be great!

Thanks in advance.

B.

You can use the keepvid.com website to download the clips you need in .MP4 format. FCPX will read those perfectly.

For youtube you can use a 720p timeline. It's a good HD quality for web and the file size will be much smaller than 1080p.

Playing the Good Guy:
You get for free an add-on for Firefox called Downloadhelper. It adds a new button to the YouTube website, which allows to download any content. If the video is avail in diff. resolutions, you can for example download a 'HD.mp4'-version. HD doesn't mean 'perfect' - YouTube videos are heavily compressed.

Some Vimeo uploaders offer a download of their original upload-file - which usually means a much better quality (but huuuge files)

Playing the Bad Guy:
Downloading content from YouTube violates its Terms Of Use §11.2

… yes, I know, 'everybody' does it, YT is full of re-loaded videos… but for your account, YOU are in charge!
