Why is there so much motion blur with my animated text?

I just did my first basic split screen motion animation with image and text, but the text animation is horrible and has a ton of motion blur, shaking, or whatever. It even did this when played back in FCPX. What can I do to fix this? Or is this just an issue with FCPX?

Edit: Apparently I can't embed Vimeo.

I watched the video and I'm not sure exactly what the complaint is. The text has every bit as much jerkiness as the images that are moving at the same speed with it. It only looks jerky if you try to read it as it's moving. What's your timeline's framerate for this project? I bet it's 23.98. Increase to 29.97. Otherwise to get around this issue I might suggest making the transitions/slides much faster and hold the images longer allowing people to read the text.

… I downloaded your original file…:
it lacks motion-blurr, imho. :silly:

due to speed of animation, and due to slow frame-rate (you've chosen 24p), the 'angular speed' of the letters is much too high; each letter 'jumps' to its next position.

Watching it frame-by-frame, I notice: each letter almost 'replaces' the next one. This gives this 'stuttering' impression.

Titles that fast need motion-blurr; or, you need a much higher over-all frame-rate.-

Ok, that all makes sense. Glad it's more a "laws of physics" type thing that's easy to avoid now that I know to avoid it.

You probably remember those days, everybody was keen on that 'film look', and a camera HAD to have 24fps ... I liked to mention, film-look is first of all 'blurry pictures' ;) , so, a cheap ND-filter has more effect than the frame-rate.

The slow frame-rate allows longer exposures = slow speed = 1/48th (… that 180° rule … ) = which results in 'real' motion-blur. Difficult for any 'computer generated images', such as titles, which by nature have no motion-blur. Huge improvement in 3D-software, when motion-blur got optional. btw: Motion5 offers that too, and the makers of TWixtor offer a $$$ 'blurrer' too (complex vector calculation, same principle as with Optical flow).

FCPX' built-in scrolling title has a 'blur' slider - exactly to accomplish this. Or, to avoid that.

Glad to be helpful .... :cheer:
