I'm new to compositing. I have a simple one and have it mostly working. In this case I apply the keyer as the producer wants a black background. But the black shows up where the green is in the glasses. see photo attachment of frame shot. What can be done? Thank you for any insights.

There is nothing you can do as far as I can tell. If this wasn't a green screen and you were shooting this against black you would have the same issue. So from what I can see, just key it out. It should look normal.

If you were to try and put his face back in there I reckon it would look even weirder.

No worries, that is normal and the way it should be! It would look weird to keep the green, just key it out carefully. It's a matter of fine-tuning the key to leave the glasses' frame intact but it can be done. I've often encountered this. Good luck!

Yeah, I never seen this bad a reflection. I'm not sure what 'key it out' means. I have Larry Jordan's FCPX course and I'll see whether that's discussed. Thanks for chirping in.

I mean just use the keyer to get rid of the green. Fine-tune it so the frame and reflections stay in the picture but the green goes transparent. What you see is not a reflection, it is the green BEHIND the glasses, the lens distorts this. So it's cool to just get rid if the green, trust me!

Yup, I do see its the green behind the glasses. I don't know how to 'just get rid of the green'. You say ''just use the keyer to get rid of the green". Ok I apply the keyer, the screen goes black then what? Now I have black behind the glasses and it looks worse.

Imagine there was no greenscreen. If you shot the guy with the glasses in front of a black background, you would see the black through the glasses. It's because of the lens. The guy is short-sighted so we get this distortion. It is okay to see black in his glasses, it is normal. It's not your fault and there is nothing you can do. You are doing it right if the green turns black!

Why don't you key your subject and post a screenshot of the result? Maybe there is a misunderstanding here and we can check the results to maybe help you better?

This is just fine! I understand that it looks weird to you but that is because of the distortion of the glasses. It would look like this in reality, too. If you don't want that, short-sighted people should take their glasses off during the interview.

You should fine-tune the key a little, though, the hair is not looking good.

Good luck!

If you can't get it right with the in-built keyer I'd recommend PHYX-keyer by the way. It's a plug-in in the FxFactory universe so there is a free trial. It is not cheap and many people say that one doesn't need it if one knows how to properly use the in-built keyer, but to me it is magic. I often have to key out poorly lit green-screens and PHYX is so fast to use and at the same time so accurate, I really love the plug-in.
