Duplicating Events - a hard time

Hello averyone,

today I tried to duplicate a project (over 40GB) inside FCPX. From one external hard drive (eSata connection) to another external hard drive (FW800). Then it's a disaster. My iMac 2011 (i5 3.1, 8GB RAM) suffers a lot and after 30 minutes, it's still doing the duplication.

See image attached. It's Amazing how I got so many Page-outs of a simply process. I ended up forcing quit FCPX and will try again later the duplication (a backup). All this time I see in Activity Monitor that the FCPX process is not responding, although I can see disk activity going on between hard drives.

Any lights? I'm running ML and FCPX 10.0.9.

I've had the same problem. It seems like the the problem occurs when you are duplicating from one external HDD to another external HDD.
If you duplicate to your internal HDD first, and then move the duplicate to you wanted HDD you Mac will do just fine.

I'm not an expert, but when duplicating from one external HDD to another, the process goes through your Mac. Finish the first stage(which is from external 1 to Mac) and then stage 2(which is Mac to external 2). Seems like my Mac prefers this method.

Perhaps the experts can explain why this is a better way?
