Moving the Event and Project folders to a subfolder

Seems like I would find the answer to my query via the search but didn't turn up anything. I'm curious though so I'll ask it here if anyone has figured out a way to hack things....

Is it possible to tell FCPX (through maybe a command line com.apple hack?) to place the Final Cut Events and Final Cut Projects folders, for external drives, somewhere other than the root of that drive? I'm too anal retentive and picky about where our projects are stored to NOT pick my own location so this bugs the hell out of me.

Thanks ya'll!

Looks like it's not possible. Did a bit more searching and can't find any mention of a way to force the Final Cut Events and Final Cut Projects folders to be anywhere but the root of external drives. Bummer. :(

The user manual points that out, the "Final Cut Events", "Final Cut Projects", and "Final Cut Archives" folders must be at the root of any drive, except the OS drive, where it lives in the Movies folder. That's it. But, there's no problem with that. You can put stuff on any drive you want, you can link to media if you don't want it stored there, too.

FCP 7 didn't let you do that, neither to most NLE's. It's minor, it's organized, what's the problem?

I'm particular about my file organization and I don't like when something insists on making folders in places where I'd not prefer them. Call it trauma pioneered by Microsoft when they insisted on creating certain folders inside "My documents" and everyone who was a Microsoft certified fanboy would talk about how it was "just fine" and "it's okay with me so why isn't it okay with you". I'm not a fan of being forced to do one thing one way. But like I said...

In this case I'd much rather have the root level of my external drives, which aren't used for FCP exclusively, to have a Video Projects folder. Should I have to justify it to you or someone else before I get to be able to do it? Obviously no.

So thanks for the info that I already knew about from the manual. But no, I didn't expect the answer to come from the manual which is why I asked...

through maybe a command line com.apple hack?

Which is more of a power-user type tweak like all the fancy stuff you can do with OSX that they don't teach you when you get certified. Hence the term "hack".

Cheers.

I've been an IT engineer for over 20 years, I know what a "hack" is, and no, there is no "hack" available for such.

I'm sorry you don't like to be told where your files have to go, but this is a better system than we had in v.7, and better than in most NLE's now. This database system has a great deal of potential.
