it was just all about phones...but! how does this relate to FCP X????
2 things.
1. The iphone records at 120 fps with better lens and camera. So, lets see some more slo mo in those videos!
2. iMovie is free now. This might get more younglings wanting FCP X after they play with imovie for free!
just my 2 cents.

No one really expected anything about Macs or desktop apps. This was the traditional iOS hardware show. But yeah, slo-mo and free iWorks (iMovie was always free), and all the other stuff was pretty exciting.

Agreed with Ben. I had no aspirations that this Event would in any way involve anything other than iPhones and iOS.
There's still an event coming in October where Apple will fill out the rest of it's product announcements for 2013. iPads, anything aTV related, Macs, and OSX 10.9 Mavericks.
Mavericks will either have already been released, or will be announced for imminent release at this Event. All new Macs announced will ship with it installed. MacPros will get a mention- a pre-order or release date.
But don't expect anything but brief mention of FCPX- Apple doesn't do stage demoes, and this isn't the right audience anyway. If Apple releases a RetinaCinemaDisplay, we might see FCPX as an example of the Pro apps which benefit from this screen resolution.
But if it's anything like last October's event (when 10.0.6 was released). The new update will pop up on the appStore later in the day.
My best guesses for release are either the 22nd or the 29th of October.

Hmm,
Why should Apple have announced something about a new Mac or FCPX.
The announcement was made at the IFA where everything is about electronic consumer products like TVs, washing machine, refrigerators, microwaves, phones, tablets etc as long they have something to do with electronics.
So Samsung is the "winner" at this show: washing machines, TVs etc (as long as they are the new introduced products) can be controlled by apps on the Samsung smartphones or tablets
If Apple would have introduced a new line of washing machines it would have been the time and place to do it

I think that's the day we might see Mavericks released. It would not surprise me at all to see Apple release Mavericks the day after their 3rd Quarter Earning call (like they did last year) so that on stage at the Apple Event a week later they can crow about how many people have downloaded Mavericks in the first 7-10 days.
My money is on the 22nd for this Apple Event, and for the launch of 10.1.
