Lost event folder cant relink project files

Hello everyone. I am new to Final Cut X. I just edited a play and finished the project almost. until...

yesterday i moved some folders around on my drive and apparently messed things up. and when i moved back i may have overwritten something i needed. Now when i turn on my timeline my project is there with all the edits. inn red saying no media. I tried too relink media and there is no media showing up in window as an option to relink.

I have the original mov files in a few places. I guess what i can not seem to find is the specific events folder which i edited to which included some muticam clips. Is there anyway i can reinsert the original movie files? AndFCPX will be smart enough to read where to In and out each clip./Or make new muticam clips and just match them with my edits. Do i have to start over. ?

Hi Laura.

First double-check if your Event folder is really gone or not. In Spotlight enter the name you have given to your Event when you created it. If you are very lucky you will see the folder in the search results and you can put it back where it is supposed to be.

If not I'm afraid you will have to start over because multicam clips are saved in your Event. Creating a new multicam clip from the original video clips won't help you restore your existing edit.

If you have accidently deleted your Event folder you really should consider a backup strategy to prevent such things from happening in the future.

Thank you I seemed to find the events folder with just the compound clip/which got renamed. i have it there and the project timeline seems to be in another event. is there a way to merge them i tried importing original media to the blank movie or merging the clips from the event with the compound by dragging to no luck any ideas. hope this makes sense. basically i now have two events - one blank movie with no media all edited and cut (finished) and one with all the muticamera clips fully loaded.

With everything loaded, open the Inspector. After selecting the project in the Project Library, look in the inspector and select "Properties at the top if it's not already showing. There's a Panel at the bottom showing the Event References (which should say it's looking for your "missing" Event), below that is a button labelled "modify Event References". Click it and you may be able to point the project to the Event you have loaded. Worth a shot...
