Hi, I'm using FCP X to edit a short film but have found that I'm unable to export it, as in when I select all and click Share, everything is greyed out. When I quit fcp and restart it my project comes up but half the files appear missing, even though they do exist on an external hard drive that I have plugged into the macbook.

I tried to relink these project files but because they're on an external hard drive they don't appear on the computer to be able to relink them to - when I go into the computer's final cut projects folder and the folder where my project is being saved, there is no "original media" file containing the clips I've used to edit on. Instead if I import the clips from the hard drive into fcp x, the files come up as not missing anymore but I definitely think there's something to do with the fact that the files dont appear in the macbook hard drive that's confusing it somehow.

The edited clips all play through fine once I've imported them from the hard drive...I just can't export the finished film! It also tells me that the disc space on the hard drive is nearly full so I've cleared that out and rendered the film but still, a greyed out share button.

Sorry if this is too vague or doesn't make sense, i've had limited use of the new final cut and so have just been trying anything i can to make this work! As you can see though I don't know everything about it so if you have any suggestions please try to dumb them down as much as possible!

The first thing I would do in this situation is consolidate all your project files in to one place using the File-->Consolidate Media OR select the Event and then File-->Organise Event Files so that all your media is within your event folder. That way there is no question about whether your files are there or not.

If your HDD doesn't have space then you may need to export somewhere else.

If the share menu is greyed then you probably don't have the project selected before trying to share it.
