How does FCP X handles the video scaling? was created by canelson
Does any of you know (by a fact or user manual reference) how FCP X handles scaling?
I'm working in a 1920x1080 timeline and I have a 3K quicktime file that I have to insert. If I add this movie to my timeline it automatically fits the video space (which is what I want) and now I need to scale it a bit and I want to know if there is any image degradation or not.
So, I know I can set the FIT, FILL or NONE in the spatial conform, what I need to know is: with the FIT option selected, the scale property shows as 100% and I have to move it to 120%... will it make my footage lose quality or do I need to set spatial conform to NONE and then scale down to the size I want to not lose quality?
I'm talking about just one file here, but I really need to do this to a lot of files.
Thanks!

Matias,
I can confirm by testing and experience that you will not lose any quality at all if you scale the large image up when spatial conform is set to FIT. In fact there is no difference at all between scaling down an image with spatial conform set to NONE and scaling the same image up when it is conformed to FIT your Project frame.
I do wish the Scale parameter would reflect the scaled size of the image when spatial conform is set to FIT or FILL. This would make upscaling much more intuitive.
