Magic Bullet or CineLook?

Have read some about Magic Bullet, but also been tempted by ColorGradingcentral's look. www.colorgradingcentral.com/products-cinelook-for-hdslrs

Is it worth buying Magic Bullet? I find the color correction in FCPX good, and if I buy CineLook I might get away with great looks without paying a lot for MBL, even if it is on sale.

What do you say?

Opinions will vary on this. One thing I have noticed is that since we use FCPX and Resolve I hardly ever use MB Looks anymore. I don't have the Cinelook plugin but it surely looks great.

As Ronny said. Opinions vary. Won't "really" know until you find what you like after trying them. I have MBL, but i really don't use it for color correcting. Mainly for just that...looks, effect. I'll correct in the color board.

Thanks for your responses. Looks like I stick to FCPX and perhaps buy the CineLook.

By the way, what is Resolve?

Resolve is a color grading application from Blackmagic Design. They have a free lite version that is pretty good but has a bit of a learning curve.

I'll see where color grading and CineLook bring me. And If I'm not satisfied I might go for Resolve.

Thanks!

In terms of learning curves, I would rank them (from lowest to highest curve) as:

1. CineLook
2. FCPX Color board (although, after learning from ColorGradingCentral - it's flexible).
3. Magic Bullet Looks
4. Resolve (Lite)

In terms of cost (lowest to highest cost):

1. FCPX
2. Resolve
3. CineLook
4. MB Looks

Overall, considering costs & learning curve:
1. FCPX
2. CineLook
3. MB Looks
4. Resolve

YMMV but learning FCPX basics will get you pretty far. I hardly use MB Looks now but stick to FCPX Color Board. CineLook looks easy though so it might be worth the time saved.

That's very good, cinemaloha!

Haven't started editing yet, but I'll go for CineLook.

Have had used both but now MBL is no longer on my system due to MBL's extremely slow render which is really counterproductive to me (big time) especially when I need to export files in a hurry. A 5 min video with MBL applied takes an hour to export.....

CineLook is still being used once in a while and I use the color board a lot these days thanks to the free tutorials by Denver from Color Grading Central. His Luster Grade presets are in fact really good, way better results then other grading presets offered by other vendors (totally in my opinion).

If I did get the luster grade at the beginning I probably wouldn't need to spend hundreds of dollars fooling around with other grading presets.

luster Grade, CineLook and HyColor Pro from HyFX are the remaining grading tools I use these days.

I teach Resolve, and find people come in expecting it to be difficult to learn, and are shocked at just how easy it is to learn and use. I'm also liking HyColor at the moment, also. Always been very disappointed in the built-in FCP X color tools.
